What a differance a day makes

Port Bannatynes Wee trophy team played Rothesay early on Saturday morning in what can only be described as atrocious conditions and as green staff and committee members worked miracles to keep the greens clear the Port finished in second place behind the hosts Rothesay missing out on a Firth of Clyde double but Robert Cassidy posted an incredible 69 to take the individual prize the only score of the day to break 70 well done Robert
As the rain stopped falling on Saturday night the course recovered remarkably over night and with John Marshall and Jimmy Dunn on the course at first light the course was presented on Sunday morning for the George Hanson sponsored Street Hanson Trophy in absolutely fantastic condition in fact if you hadn’t been on the west coast the previous day you would not have known it had been raining at all
Early starter Jack Paterson posted a 66 net 58 early bells and set the standard for the day the closest anyone could come were Hector Whitelaw and Mark Crichton both with 61s Hector edging second place with a better inward half but with over half the field getting a cut or hold this was testament to the conditions on the course and overhead Jack also had two twos on his card a feat matched by the resurgent R seven Turnbull who’s new driver seems to be doing the business the only other two of the day went to big Jimmy Burke who donated both his magic two money and his prize for nearest the pin at the 18th to the junior section thanks Jimmy . Nearest the pin at the tenth was won the classy Bobby Mellvile edging out big Bob while the mighty hitting Neil MacLeod won the longest drive the green keeper has been instructed to remove the stones from the sixth fairway while Donald Standaloft won the scratch prize.
This Sunday is the inter-pub trophy at Rothesay and most members take part in this competition for their various favourite watering holes while the Golf club will be defending the North End Trophy contested between the four north end teams hopefully some pictures will be taken with the sponsors this weekend as George couldn’t be there on Sunday as Rothesays first team were away to Cowal
Also members remember the final mixed night of the season and Barbeque with some entertainment to follow lets hope the weather will be kind. Also all who participate in the ever popular Taverna Open you can now enter both in the Taverna and at the Port
The field will be limited to 66 so don’t be slow and get in early

Ceud Mile Failte
A hundred thousand welcomes

Port Bannatyne Golf Club is located on the beautiful and historic Isle of Bute, in Scotland. It is an ancient, distinctive, and hospitable golf club where green fees are affordable and visiting golfers are made most welcome.

Our gaelic greeting ('Ceud Mile Failte') is symbolic of scenery and atmosphere. Although the island lies in the Clyde Estuary in the south west of Scotland—and is therefore easy to reach—the Higland Boundary Fault runs neatly through the middle of Bute just a few miles south of our course. So the vistas and landscapes that surround you while playing are truly Highland in their characteristics. If you only play here once, we promise you will carry the memories of your day on our course in your heart for many, many years.
