Champions Go Out Quarter Final stages and we get down to the Nitty-Gritty. On a morning which did not look particularly promising on the weather front , and with the course being closed from early Saturday, the first quarter saw Jim Muldoon and Stevie Officer take on David Beattie and Robert Jardine this match went all the way with the later winning on the 18th having never been in front until the final putt. The second quarter had quite a bit of experience involved in this match in the form of Ian MacLeod and John Preston with probably around a hundred years or so of golf under the belt taking on the youthful (well relatively) Harry Slaven and Edward (TED) Mc Donald this game was interrupted by the rain as the greens flooded and play was suspended, now I don’t know if the rest helped, or hindered or if refreshment was taken but on play resuming Ian and John won the next two holes game over. The third quarter followed a similar trend with Winter League champions Ian Shaw and Mike Manvell losing to Club Champion Donald Standaloft and François Linterman (who incidentally is the best Belgian player in the club ) winning their next two holes as play resumed also to see them safely into the semis. Quarter four and this year’s favourites Jack Paterson and Andy (Rigsby) Williamson were beaten by new pairing John Black and Bobby Peddar this was the biggest win of the day by a score of 4&3 by the way it was Jack who said that they were favourites wish id stuck a few quid on someone else! With the weather deteriorating as Sunday went on quite a few of the middle order games were not played out or were decided on the toss of a coin which meant the coupon was deemed to be null and void so will roll over, In the big game of the day well the longest anyway Gordon Hillis and Bob Sutherland seem to manoeuvring into position to have another assault at the wooden spoon with a loss to Colin Renfrew and Gordon Peacock who obviously had the stamina to last the game. So the full results were R Jardine & D Beattie beat J Muldoon & S Officer J Black & R Peddar beat A Williamson & J Paterson D Standaloft & F LIntermans beat I Shaw & M Manvell I L MacLeod beat H Slaven & T McDonald J Dunn & J Standaloft beat H & H Whitelaw D Driver & T Barnsley beat J Jardine &A Durrant D Bodys & T Howat beat J Marshall & G Fisher D Greer & A Greer beat M Crichton & D Ried P Manvell & S Howrie beat R Cassidy & R Turnbull C MacPhail & J Hebditch beat D Whitelaw & G Dunn G Peacock & C Renfrew beat G Hillis & R Sutherland P Ware & R Melville Beat S Mc Dermot & K Queen W/O This means that the draw for the semis looks like this 8.30 R Jardine & D Beattie V J Black & R Peddar (semi) 8.40 D Standaloft & F Lintermans V I L MacLeod & J Preston (semi) 8.50 J Muldoon & S Officer V A Williamson & J Paterson 9.00 I Shaw & M Manvell V T Mc Donald & H Slaven 9.10 J Dunn & J Standaloft V D Driver & T Barnsley 9.20 D Bodys & T Howat V A Greer & D Greer 9.30 H Whitelaw & H Whitelaw V J Jardine & A Durrant 9.40 D Reid & M Crichton V J Marshall & G Fisher 9.50 S Howrie & P Manvell V J Hebditch & C MacPhail 10.00 C Renfrew & G Peacock V P Ware & R Melville 10.10 R Cassidy & J Bicker V G Dunn & D Whitelaw 10.20 D Mc Dermot & K Queen V G Hillis & R Sutherland This Sunday the 9th is the March Medal usual ballot times with the Winter League Semi Finals on Sunday the 16th and the final day is set for Sunday the 30th March format is still to be decided so any suggestions to Ian Shaw. |
Ceud Mile Failte
A hundred thousand welcomesPort Bannatyne Golf Club is located on the beautiful and historic Isle of Bute, in Scotland. It is an ancient, distinctive, and hospitable golf club where green fees are affordable and visiting golfers are made most welcome. Our gaelic greeting ('Ceud Mile Failte') is symbolic of scenery and atmosphere. Although the island lies in the Clyde Estuary in the south west of Scotland—and is therefore easy to reach—the Higland Boundary Fault runs neatly through the middle of Bute just a few miles south of our course. So the vistas and landscapes that surround you while playing are truly Highland in their characteristics. If you only play here once, we promise you will carry the memories of your day on our course in your heart for many, many years. |
