Port Inn Winter League

Suffering their first defeat of this season’s Port Inn Winter League means that David Beattie & Robert Jardine will be playing for the third and fourth placed instead of the winners’ spot. Undoubtedly, on form, the bookies’ favourites they were toppled by John Black and Bobby Pedder in a tense semi-final that went to the last green. The other semi-final was, sadly, a bit of a non event. John Preston’s injury meaning that him and partner, I.L. Macleod, had to concede by an 8 and 7 margin to Donald Standaloft and Francois Lintermans. What a turn around for the latter pairing who were contesting the wooden spoon places last season. At the other end of the places, the withdrawal of Queen and McDermid meant that the bottom 3 pairings played a greensome medal with the highest two net scores going forward to meet each other in match play for the wooden spoon. A close run contest ended with Bicker & Cassidy avoiding the wooden spoon game by a shot over Whitelaw & Dunn and Hillis and Sutherland with the net scores being 64, 65 and 73 respectively. This means that Bicker and Cassidy are looking for a pairing to play on the Final’s Day. Anyone interested in playing should contact J. Bicker.

Full draw for the Final Day is on the upstairs score board.

Ceud Mile Failte
A hundred thousand welcomes

Port Bannatyne Golf Club is located on the beautiful and historic Isle of Bute, in Scotland. It is an ancient, distinctive, and hospitable golf club where green fees are affordable and visiting golfers are made most welcome.

Our gaelic greeting ('Ceud Mile Failte') is symbolic of scenery and atmosphere. Although the island lies in the Clyde Estuary in the south west of Scotland—and is therefore easy to reach—the Higland Boundary Fault runs neatly through the middle of Bute just a few miles south of our course. So the vistas and landscapes that surround you while playing are truly Highland in their characteristics. If you only play here once, we promise you will carry the memories of your day on our course in your heart for many, many years.
