The New Season!!

Clydesdale Bank Subscription Medal

A healthy fied contested the official start to the summer season at the Port and against tricky, windy conditions and with no NR's and a CSS of 65 it bodes well for the season. Considering the amount of rain over the past week the condition of the course was outstanding with the greens, in particular, in good nick. Winner on the day was Calum Macphail, who was, by the way, the winner of the new set of Ben Ross clubs that had been raffled throughout the winter season. So, obviously, the new set is working already! A net 64 was good enough but only beat Donald Standaloft with the better inward half. Donald's gross score of 67 had no less than 8 three's and he is showing really good form at this very early stage of the season. Another interesting card was that of David Bodys. His run of four holes from the 9th went 2, 2, 5 and then another 2. 3 two's on four holes - shame about the rest David!

Firth of Clyde League
A new arrangement of the league is in operation this season with two leagues of 4 clubs playing home and away. Unfortunately the Port has been drawn in a league which can only be described as "the league of death" drawing three of the four other biggest clubs in the Firth - Rothesay, Gourock and Cowal. the other league made up of Routenburn, Skelmorlie, Largs and Millport. (Not much travelling for these clubs!)
Arrangements for the second fixtures are still in negotiation and this is why the fixture card is on hold. Members can pick up a Temporary Fixture List from the foyer of the Club.

Change to Local Rule
Members are asked to note that when Winter Rules no longer apply, the right of the fairway past the burn at the 5th/17th, indicated by green stakes, will no longer be a turn over and the stakes will be removed.

This Week-End
Busy week-end ahead with The McCready Stableford on Saturday and the April Medal on Sunday with the usual ballots.

Competitions
Entry sheets are now in locker room for ALL this season's individual and pairs competitions with a closing date of Sunday 11th May.

Salmon Leap
Members are reminded that the Salmon Leap has now reverted to summer competition on Fridays with a 5.30 ballot time.

Ceud Mile Failte
A hundred thousand welcomes

Port Bannatyne Golf Club is located on the beautiful and historic Isle of Bute, in Scotland. It is an ancient, distinctive, and hospitable golf club where green fees are affordable and visiting golfers are made most welcome.

Our gaelic greeting ('Ceud Mile Failte') is symbolic of scenery and atmosphere. Although the island lies in the Clyde Estuary in the south west of Scotland—and is therefore easy to reach—the Higland Boundary Fault runs neatly through the middle of Bute just a few miles south of our course. So the vistas and landscapes that surround you while playing are truly Highland in their characteristics. If you only play here once, we promise you will carry the memories of your day on our course in your heart for many, many years.
