Becoming Clearer! by Webmaster @ 13:15 GMT

Rothesay Motor Services Winter League

18 pairs are competing for the top honours in this years Winter League but only one pair remains unbeaten and that is the sponsor, David Reid, with his partner Pete Manvell. Another excellent win for them at the week-end by 2 up over close rivals Williamson and Paterson goes a long with their 2 other wins plus their 2 halved matches to take them to the top of League A with 13 points. However they have played 5 matches but all the other pairings will have to play catch up if they are to be toppled. A similar situation arises at the top of League B where Bicker & Marshall are at the top with 12 points after their comfortable win over Officer & Muldoon at the week-end. They too, however, have played 5 matches leaving them looking over their shoulder at the pairings who have only played 4 games so far. Big wins on Sunday for Black & Pedder, Dunn & Standaloft, Bicker & Marshall and Whitelaw & McCready but biggest smile of the day came from McDonald & Slaven who recorded their first win of the season by beating the father and son Whitelaws. Well maybe that is a slight exagerration. After their 7&6 win over Officer & Muldoon, Bicker & Marshall scooped the rollover coupon! Definate big smiles there!
Results were:
League A: Black & Pedder bt Crichton & Lintermans 5&4: Greer & Greer bt Driver and Barnsley 2&1: Reid & Manvell bt Williamson & Paterson 2 up: McDonald & Slaven bt Whitelaw & Whitelaw 1 up:

Winter Rules!! by Webmaster @ 14:38 GMT

December Medal
With a CSS of 68, and that only for reductions, was an indication of just how difficult conditions were for the postponed December Medal which was played on Sunday 4th January. However, as is the norm, there is always some one who burns up the course and on this instance it was Taff Barnsley. His net 61 was the best score by far and won him the second class medal plus a cut that brings him down to 20 which will bring a huge smile to all his opponents in his league of The Rothesay Motor services Winter League. Probably the only one not smiling is his partner David Driver! The scratch and first class medal was a double up for Jimmy Dunn.

Captain V Vice-Captain Team Match by Webmaster @ 14:34 GMT

A superb turnout of 28 members and friends were divided into two teams to battle for the first scalp of 2009. Enjoying the hospitality of the Captain prior to the teams taking to the course brought some well needed warmth and, in many cases, a hair of the dog relief. After the teams re-entered the clubhouse more again was on offer in the form of soup and sandwiches supplied by Captain Graham's wife Suzie, plus, one suspects, additional help from his ever busy mother-in-law! Whatever, or whoever, it was much appreciated by all that played and added to what was a very enjoyable day's golf. The result? Oh yes! the Captain's team had a avery convincing 5and a half to a 1 and a half win.

This Week-End
Rothesay Motor Services Winter League Week 6 takes place with every game now crucial to qualifying spots.

Ceud Mile Failte
A hundred thousand welcomes

Port Bannatyne Golf Club is located on the beautiful and historic Isle of Bute, in Scotland. It is an ancient, distinctive, and hospitable golf club where green fees are affordable and visiting golfers are made most welcome.

Our gaelic greeting ('Ceud Mile Failte') is symbolic of scenery and atmosphere. Although the island lies in the Clyde Estuary in the south west of Scotland—and is therefore easy to reach—the Higland Boundary Fault runs neatly through the middle of Bute just a few miles south of our course. So the vistas and landscapes that surround you while playing are truly Highland in their characteristics. If you only play here once, we promise you will carry the memories of your day on our course in your heart for many, many years.
