It's Officially Winter! by Webmaster @ 15:16 GMT

ROTHESAY MOTOR SERVICES WINTER LEAGUE
The ever popular Winter League, sponsored this year by Rothesay Motor Services, got underway in bright sunshine over the Port on Sunday and, yet again, it is obvious that competition for the top 4 places in each league is going to be keen. 4 all square games, one of them the "bounce" game, ensured no winners of the coupon this week. Biggest winners of the day were CriChton and Lintermans with a 5&4 win over the father and son pairing of Hector and Hector Whitelaw. Undoubtedly the best result of the day came in the form of an all square for Alec Greer (Jnr) playing on his own against last year finalist pairing of Black & Pedder.
Huge thanks are due to David Whitelaw & Tommy McCready for substituting at the "last minute" in the B League.
Thanks to Jan and the girls for the first day hospitality which was much appreciated by all.
Results: A League: Black & Pedder halved with Greer & Greer:Reid & Manvell beat Ware & Melville(sub Shaw) 4&3: Williamson & Paterson beat McDonald & Slaven 4&3: Crichton & Lintermans beat Whitelaw & Whitelaw 5&4:
B League: McFarlane & Fisher beat Maltman & MacPhail 3&1:Bicker & Marshall halved with D. Whitelaw & McCready: Preston & MacLeod halved with Muldoon & Officer: Renfrew & Peacock beat Jardine & Durrant 3&2.

JMF Tankard Decided - At Last! by Webmaster @ 14:47 GMT

The JMF Tankard, kindly sponsored by the Fergus family, was finally played for on Sunday under the most horrendous winds seen at The Port for some time. It did nor deter the hardened members of The Port though but a CSS of a non counter displayed just how difficult conditions were. Three net 69's dominated the scoring but Taff Barnsley had the better inward half over Andy Cormack and Donald Standaloft to stand in the winner's circle. Donald's amazing gross 71 won him the scratch prize whilst Andy had to be content with the runner's up spot. Donald also won the longest drive at the 2nd while Alistair Fergus kept the"home fires burning" by winning the nearest the pin prize at the 10th. Brother David did not fare so well as he won "The Sclaffer's Prize" ie last place!
The Club's thanks go to the Fergus family for their kind sponsorship of this competition.
This Week-End
The Rothesay Motor Services Winter league begins this Sunday with the following fixtures:

Prizegiving Dance - members are asked to look out for information regarding the Prizegiving Dance to be held in January and anyone having trophies is asked to return them to the Clubhouse.
Salmon Leap - Fish are fairly jumping into the Jardine household at the moment with "Stav" having won the salmon leap for the second saturday in a rwo.
Geriatric Jaunt - Apologies to Andy Williamson as it was him who won "The Jaunt" last week and not Andy Stevenson as was reported. (Difficult for the other Andy to win it since he was actually in Florida!!). Just to convince us all that it was not a fluke Andy, Williamson that is, proceeded to do it again this week!

'Summer Golf' returns! by Webmaster @ 13:09 GMT

November Medal
An almost cloudless sky and warmth greeted the November medal contestants and the kind weather was indicated in the number of competitors and the CSS of 64. 31 members took part overall but top of the pile was Captain Graham Fisher with his net score of 63 which won him the first class competition. Competition for the scratch medal was tight with both Graham Fisher and Graham Dunn on 71 with Mark Crighton and Jamie Jardine on a score of 72. Graham Dunn beat the captain on countback to take the "blue riband" event of the scratch medal. Jimmy Gordon held of all second class opposition to take the second class medal with his net 66.

Ceud Mile Failte
A hundred thousand welcomes

Port Bannatyne Golf Club is located on the beautiful and historic Isle of Bute, in Scotland. It is an ancient, distinctive, and hospitable golf club where green fees are affordable and visiting golfers are made most welcome.

Our gaelic greeting ('Ceud Mile Failte') is symbolic of scenery and atmosphere. Although the island lies in the Clyde Estuary in the south west of Scotland—and is therefore easy to reach—the Higland Boundary Fault runs neatly through the middle of Bute just a few miles south of our course. So the vistas and landscapes that surround you while playing are truly Highland in their characteristics. If you only play here once, we promise you will carry the memories of your day on our course in your heart for many, many years.
