Rothesay Motor Services Winter League Week II
by Webmaster @ 14:41 GMT
After only the first two qualifying league stage matches of The Rothesay Motor Services Winter League nobody is going to argue that this season's competition is going to be ultra competitive. Even at this early stage only 3 of the 24 pairs entered are on maximum 6 points. In League A it is Crichton and Lintermans who have the maximum 6 after their win over Jardine & Durrant by a comfortable 6 & 5. They now lead that league by 2 points. A similar margin is held by Cassidy & McKirdy who lead League B with their win over Paterson & Williamson by the slim margin of being 1 up. The third pair to hold the maximum 6 points is that of Bicker & Marshall who lead League C after their win over Renfrew & Peacock by 4 & 3. They, however, only hold a 1 point lead over McDonald and Slaven. League D has co-leaders in the form of Shaw & Hassan along with the Greers. Both pairings have 5 points after they halves with each other at the week-end. A good fightback this by Shaw & Hassan who were 2 down with only two to play but a birdie:birdie finish salvaged a half match. Results over the week-end were: League A:Pedder & Black bt Milliken & Preston 4&3: Crichton & Lintermans bt Jardine & Durrant 6&5: Fisher & McFarlane bt Officer & Muldoon 3&2. League B: Cassidy & McKirdy bt Paterson & Williamson 1 up: D. Standaloft & G. Dunn bt G. Whitelaw & Chrystie 3&2: Bodys & Martin bt Melville & Ware 5&3. League C: McCready & Whitelaw bt Reid & Manvell 3 & 2: Bicker & Marshall bt Renfrew & Peacock 4&3: McDonald & Slaven halved with MacPhail & Barnett: League D: Shaw & Hassan halved with Greer & Greer: J. Close Contest in HORRIBLE Weather
by Webmaster @ 12:43 GMT
The first "Fun Sunday" of the Winter fixture list was a great success despite the horrendous wind and rain that swept the course and caused the competition to be shortened to just 12 holes. (This a very popular decision by all concerned taken on course by the match secretary). 20 members participated giving 5 teams of 4 for the Texas Scramble and with the names drawn "out of the hat" and a cross section of handicap categories in each team, it was always going to be a tight contest. In the end 0.2 of a stroke seperated the top 3 teams. On 39 was the third placed team of H. Whitelaw, R. Pedder, J. Marshall and F. Phillips. In front of them in the runner up spot was J. Dunn, H. Slaven, J. Bicker and C. MacPhail on 38.9 shots and perhaps rueing the fact that the captain of the team did not know which was up wind and which was downwind at the second - sorry folks - in joke! The winners then on 38.8 were J.Paterson, B. MacKillop, J. Preston and B. Melville. This Sunday The second Sunday of the Rothesay Motor Services Winter league is this Sunday with the following games:- League A: 9.00 Fisher & McFarlane V Officer & Muldoon: 10.10 Pedder & Black V Milliken & Preston: 10.20 Crichton & Lintermans V Jardine & Durrant League B: 8.50 Bodys & Martin V Melville & Ware: 9.30 D. Standaloft & G. Dunn V Chrystie & G. Whitelaw:10.00 Cassidy & McKirdy V Williamson & Paterson League C: MacPhail & Barnett V McDonald & Slaven: 9.20 Bicker & Marshall V Renfrew & Peacock: 9.50 McCready & D. Whitelaw V Reid & Manvell: League D: 8.30 H. Whitelaw & McMurchie V Driver & Barnsley: 9.10 Shaw & Hassan V Greer & Greer: 9.40 McKillop & Gabell V J. Dunn & J. Winter League Under Way!
by Webmaster @ 15:01 GMT
Rothesay Motor Services Winter League It was the first day of the qualifying campaign on Sunday in the Rothesay Motor Services Winter League and apart from a few showers at the beginning of the day the weather was extremely kind. With four leagues of 6 pairings and only the top two in each qualifying for the big prizes then qualification is going to be tight in all leagues. Tightest game of the day was the match in League B between the new pairings of D. Standaloft & G. Dunn against J. McKirdy & R. Cassidy with the latter coming home with a 1 up win. Biggest win of the day was in League C with an on form pairing of Bicker & Marshall defeating an out of form pairing of D. Whitelaw & McCready by the margin of 7 & 6. The last minute pairing of Milliken and Preston, which will now stay together throughout the competition, had a good 2 up win over Fisher & McFarlane. Other notable scalps were taken by Shaw & Hassan with their win over McKillop & Gabell and by Crichton & Lintermans over Black & Pedder by the comfortable margin of 4 & 3. Results were: League A: Crichton & Lintermans bt Pedder & Black 4&3: Milliken & Preston bt Fisher & McFarlane 2 up : Jardine & Durrant bt Muldoon & Officer 4& 3 League B: Cassisdy & McKirdy bt D. Standaloft & G. Dunn 1 up: Paterson & Williamson bt Bodys & Martin 4 & 2: Chrystie & G. Whitelaw bt Melville & Gilchrist (Ware) 4 & 3: League C: Bicker & Marshall bt D. Whitelaw & McCready 7&6: Reid & Manvell bt MacPhail & Barnett 2&1: McDonald & Slaven bt Renfrew & Peacock 2&1: League D: Shaw & Hassan bt McKillop & Gabell 4&2: H. Whitelaw & McMurchie bt J. Dunn & J. Standaloft 2&1: Greer & Greer bt Ddriver & Barnsley 2&1: November Medal The decision to cancel the first date of this competition proved to be a good one with the weather totally in tune with the good turnout. Two medal virgins came out on top on the day with T. McCready winning his first ever medal in the first class section and Pete Barnett repeating the same feat in the second class category. Tommy had the best score of the day with a 76 less 11 giving him a net score of 65. Pete won his class with a net 67 beating Gary Gabell by virtue of the better inward half. Donald Standaloft's gross 69 won him the scratch section. CSS was 65. This Week-End Members are encouraged to sign up for the first "Fun Sunday" of the winter in the shape of a 4 man Texas Scramble. An entry sheet is on the board but anyone not entered should turn up at the Clubhouse at 9.30 for a 10.00 Shotgun start. Teams will be drawn on the day and the format is such that teams will be drawn to ensure a cross section of handicaps make up each team. All entry money will go towards prizes with the prizegiving at 3.30 and catering from our fabulous Janey is available. News A date for the diary is the 30th January. Our Prizegiving Dance will be held that evening and members are asked to keep a look out for further information and ticket availability. Members holding trophies are asked to return them to the Clubhouse. Good luck and enjoyable weekend is extended to the group of members travelling to Macrihanish this week-end - have a good one lads!

Ceud Mile Failte
A hundred thousand welcomes
Port Bannatyne Golf Club is located on the beautiful and historic Isle of Bute, in Scotland. It is an ancient, distinctive, and hospitable golf club where green fees are affordable and visiting golfers are made most welcome.
Our gaelic greeting ('Ceud Mile Failte') is symbolic of scenery and atmosphere. Although the island lies in the Clyde Estuary in the south west of Scotland—and is therefore easy to reach—the Higland Boundary Fault runs neatly through the middle of Bute just a few miles south of our course. So the vistas and landscapes that surround you while playing are truly Highland in their characteristics. If you only play here once, we promise you will carry the memories of your day on our course in your heart for many, many years.
