Festive Season by Webmaster @ 13:26 GMT

Rothesay Motor services Winter League

Only 2 pairs remain unbeaten in this year's Winter League sponsored by Rothesay Motor Services. Both pairs are in League B and played each other on Sunday. David Reid, partnered by Pete Manvell and Mark Crichton, partnered by Francois Lintermans halved thier game on Sunday to retain their unbeaten status. Reid and Manvell now share top spot in that League with Williamson and Paterson with both on 10 points. However, Crichton and Manvell look dangerous in third spot with 8 points and a game in hand. Driver & Barnsley also have 8 and a game in hand with Black and Pedder having played 4 games also on 8. League B is just as competitive. Fisher and McFarlane lost their unbeaten status with a 1 down defeat at the hands of Jardine & Durrat but they remain top of that League with 10 points. Bicker & Marshall move up to second spot in this League with their 3&2 win over Peacock & Renfrew. However both pairings have played all 4 games and are looking behind at 4 pairs all on 7 points with 3 of those having a game in hand. Results from Sunday were:

Getting Interesting! by Webmaster @ 15:53 GMT

Rothesay Motor Services Winter League

With the League set up with 9 pairings in each league it is hard to define who are the front runners so far with most pairings having played 3 games and others only 2. However, what is obvious in League B is that the pairing to beat is Fisher and McFarlane. With 3 games played and 3 wins under their belt they sit pretty, or not so pretty, at the top of this League with 9 points but Peacock & Renfrew have 6 points out of 6 with only 2 games played. (Could they be the dark horses this year?) 3 other couples share 2nd place in League A with this pairing, Whitelaw & McCready, Bicker & Marshall and Preston & MacLeod making it an interesting scenario even at this early stage. Meanwhile in League A no pairing has managed 3 wins out of 3, although Crichton & Lintermans have 2 out of 2 giving them 6 points but they are only in 4th place at this stage. At the top is the undefeated pairing of Reid & Manvell with 2 wins and a half giving them 8 points. Black and Pedder also remain undefeated but they have 7 points from 2 halved matches and a win. Also on 7 is Williamson & Paterson who suffered their first defeat of the campaign losing out to Crighton & Lintermans (Jardine) by a whacking 6&5.
Results of week 3 were:
League A - Driver & Barnsley bt McDonald & Slaven 2&1: Black & Pedder halved with Reid & Manvell (McIntyre): Greer & Greer had a walk over against Melville & Ware: Crichton & Lintermans bt Williamson & Paterson 6&5:
League B - Dunn & Standaloft bt Preson & Macleod 1 up: Bicker & Marshall bt Maltman & MacPhail 4&3: Fisher & McFarlane bt McCready & Whitelaw 2&1: Renfrew & Peacock by Muldoon & Officer 3&2.

This Sunday
The Rothesay Motor Services Winter League round 4 takes place with the following pairings and times:
8.40 - Renfrew & Peacock V Dunn & Standaloft: 8.50 - Crichton & Lintermans V Driver & Barnsley: 9.00 - Melville & Ware V Whitelaw & Whitelaw: 9.10 - Black & Pedder V McDonald & Slaven: 9.20 - Fisher & McFarlane V Bicker & Marshall: 9.30 - Greer & Greer V Reid & Manvell: 9.40 - Maltman & MacPhail V Preston & Macleod: 9.50 - McCready & Whitelaw V Jardine & Durrant: 10-00 "Bounce" Game - Williamson & Paterson V Muldoon & Officer:

Other News
Andy Williamson made it a double this week when he won both the Geriatric Jaunt and The Salmon Leap - maybe he should have saved it for the Winter League!

Proper Winter League? by Webmaster @ 13:20 GMT

Rothesay Motor Services Winter League
Bright sunshine, hard greens and an hour's delay in starting times greeted the Winter League players for the second round matches in this year's competition sponsored by Rothesay Motor Services. That the games went ahead at all was down to the patience, understanding and fantastic cooperation of the participants which typifies the atmosphere at Port Bannatyne Golf Club. The games went basically as predicted as exampled by 5 pairs each having a winning line on the coupon and each pair winning a tenner. These pairs were: Fisher & McFarlane, Renfrew & Peacock, Dunn & Standaloft, Preston & Macleod and paterson & williamson. On the golf course the results were:
Preston & MacLeod bt Bicker & Marshall 4&3: Reid & Manvell bt McDonald & Slaven 3&2: Fisher & McFarlane bt Muldoon & Officer 5&4: Williamson & Paterson bt Greer & Greer 1 up:Whitelaw & Whitelaw halved with Barnsley (Shaw) & Driver: Black & Pedder bt Melville & Ware 6&5:Whitelaw & McCready bt Maltman & MacPhail 5&3: Durrant & Jardine bt Dunn (Archibald) & Standaloft 3&2:

This week-end
The December Medal and Winter Trophy Round 3 are scheduled for this Sunday with the usual ballot times.

Other News
"Generalissimo" Tommy Wilkinson showed a fine return to form - the video must have been out again - when he won the Geriatric Jaunt with 31 points.
Jim Bicker won the last Salmon Leap but was pipped by 2 points by John Preston for the monthly prize.
A great night was had by all who attended the latest Race Night which was superbly organised by Ian Shaw. Once again badly needed funds went into the Club's treasure chest. Well done Ian!
The Prizegiving Dance will be held on Saturday 24th January with tickets on sale shortly through Harry Slaven's shop and The Ardbeg Post Office. Members are reminded to return all trophies to the Clubhouse.
Members are also reminded that facilities are now in place to augment The Centenary Fund Appeal by donating a few pounds per month by Direct Debit/Standing Order. Information about how to go about this is on the Club Notice Boards.

Ceud Mile Failte
A hundred thousand welcomes

Port Bannatyne Golf Club is located on the beautiful and historic Isle of Bute, in Scotland. It is an ancient, distinctive, and hospitable golf club where green fees are affordable and visiting golfers are made most welcome.

Our gaelic greeting ('Ceud Mile Failte') is symbolic of scenery and atmosphere. Although the island lies in the Clyde Estuary in the south west of Scotland—and is therefore easy to reach—the Higland Boundary Fault runs neatly through the middle of Bute just a few miles south of our course. So the vistas and landscapes that surround you while playing are truly Highland in their characteristics. If you only play here once, we promise you will carry the memories of your day on our course in your heart for many, many years.
