MacPhail Earns Big Cut
by Webmaster @ 13:44 GMT
The postponed January medal was finally played on Sunday 14th February with an extremely healthy entry and golf of the highest quality. A CSS of just 64 is an indication of just how good the scoring was with now fewer than 8 out of the 25 strong field at 65 or better. Best on the day, by a long way and nobody can say it was not coming, was Calum MacPhail with a gross 78 less 21 giving him a net 57. This, needless to say won him the second class medal and a good sized cut from the handicapper's knife. These days however it is in actual fact the computer's knife! Jamie Jardine won the first class category with a gross 67 less 7 to give him a net 60 and a similar cut from the computer. Donald Standaloft won the scratch section with a 69. No fewer than 5 twos were carded on the day with Jamie Jardine slotting two of those 5. The others coming from Davie Driver, Donald Standaloft and Hector Whitelaw. Rothesay Motor Services Winter League It was all a bit of an anti climax on Sunday when the quarter finals had to be cancelled due to white frost of the greens. However, they will be played this Sunday with the same times. The February Medal is cancelled to a date to be announced.

Qualifiers Decided!
by Webmaster @ 15:47 GMT
Rothesay Motor Services Winter League The 6 pair league qualifying stage is now over and the 8 qualifiers for the knockout stages have been decided. Needless to say, as with every Winter League, surprises on the last day were to the fore with pairings climbing up to the heady heights of qualification due to their own good work on the day but more than benefitting just a little from pairing results elsewhere in their league. Cassidy & McKirdy breezed into the quarter finals and maintained a 100% record of wins, the only pair throughout the leagues to do this, with their 7 & 6 win over G. Whitelaw & Chrystie. They will play McDonald & Slaven who found themselves in second spot in League C by defeating a single player in the shape of D. Reid who, with missing partner P. Manvell were possible qualifiers. Bicker & Marshall blew their chance totally with a surprising and rather emphatic defeat of 6&5 to the very in form bottom of the table MacPhail & Barnett. Fisher & MacFarlane pushed Crichton & Lintermans into second spot in their league by defeating them 2 up. The table toppers play H. Whitelaw & McMurchie who were quite surprised to find out that they had quailified with their 3&1 win over Shaw & Hassan. Crichton & Lintermans will now play J. Dunn & J. Standaloft who topped their league and had a very tight 1 up win over Driver & Barnsley. The final quarter final will be between McCready & D. Whitelaw who, despite losing to Renfrew & Peacock, managed to sit top of their league and will play D. Standaloft & G. Dunn who had a comfortable win against Bodys & Martin. However it is not the end of the road for all the pairings who did not qualify for the quarters. In fact it is now back to square one with every pair playing in a 4 pair league against every pair who finished in the equivelent spot in their qualifying league. All the pairs finishing 3rd will play against each other in a league, every pair finishing 4th will do the same. Playing in "The League To Avoid The Wooden Spoon" are The Greers, MacPhail & Barnett, officer & Muldoon and finally Melville & Ware - should prove an interesting final 3 weeks! A list of leagues, matches, dates and times has been posted in the Clubhouse notice boards. This week-end On Sunday the cancelled January medal will take place with the usual ballot times. Burns Supper Tickets are now like gold dust and members wishing to attend MUST contact J. bicker as soon as possible.

Ceud Mile Failte
A hundred thousand welcomes
Port Bannatyne Golf Club is located on the beautiful and historic Isle of Bute, in Scotland. It is an ancient, distinctive, and hospitable golf club where green fees are affordable and visiting golfers are made most welcome.
Our gaelic greeting ('Ceud Mile Failte') is symbolic of scenery and atmosphere. Although the island lies in the Clyde Estuary in the south west of Scotland—and is therefore easy to reach—the Higland Boundary Fault runs neatly through the middle of Bute just a few miles south of our course. So the vistas and landscapes that surround you while playing are truly Highland in their characteristics. If you only play here once, we promise you will carry the memories of your day on our course in your heart for many, many years.
