Holders Retain Rothesay Motor Services Winter League by Webmaster @ 13:28 GMT

It was a case of deja vu for Harry Slaven & Ted McDonald when they retained the Rothesay Motor Services Winter League title this year beating Mark Crichton & Francois Lintermans in the final by the margin of 3&2.
Despite getting in through the back door at the qualifying stages the more experienced pair overcome a hefty shot giveaway, to Francois in particular, to take their second title in a row. Third place went to Graham Dunn and Donald Standaloft who defeated Graham Fisher and Ian McFarlane. Wooden Spooners this year were Phile Ware and Bobby Melville. Such was the generosity of the sponsorship from David Reid and Rothesay Motor Services that all top eight places PLUS the Wooden Spooners recieved prizes which were presented by David's wife Jan at the presentation ceremony.
Janey Jardine's soup, fish, lasagne and curry plus more than just a few chips with desert to follow was the starter for an afternoon plus early evening plus later evening of Ian Shaw style quizes and entertainment thouroughly enjoyed by all.
The Club's sincere thanks go to David Reid and Rothesay Motor Services for their continued sponsorship and support of their winter league - here's to next year!

March Medal by Webmaster @ 12:12 GMT

Robert Cassidy won his first ever first class medal on Sunday with a gross 72 less 11 giving him the best score of the day with a 60. He had the oly 2 of the day in what was a very healthy turnout. The second class medal went to David Driver with his 61 (74 less 13). Graham Dunn won the scratch medal with an impressive 68 blows. The CSS was 65.

Mail On Sunday Team Match V Routenburn
Sadly, unlike last year, our run in this national competition was short after out defeat at the hands of Routenburn. The score was 4:1 against with Graham Dunn being our only win on the day.

The Geriatric Jaunt.
Jimmy Gordon won the Deriatric Jaunt on Tuesday with a total of 32 points. More notable than the points total however was his TWO gross 2's net 1's! He holed from the tee side of the burn at the 5th for a 2 net 1 giving him 5 points for that hole. he then followed this up with a 2 net 1 at the 18th for 4 points. Not bad for an octagenerian!

February Medal by Webmaster @ 13:26 GMT

Hugh Archibald had a very welcome return to form in the postponed February medal which was played on Sunday. His net 62 was the best score of the day amongst a very healthy and competitive field. A gross 73 less 11, plus a 2, enriches big Hughie's bar credit by a fair margin plus winning himself the first class category medal. Hot on his heels in the scoring was Bobby Pedder who had a net 63 from his gross 76 less 13 and it was he who took the second class section. Graham Fisher won the scratch medal with his 75.
CSS was 65.

Winter League Approaches Final Stages by Webmaster @ 16:24 GMT

Rothesay Motor Services Winter League
Okay! Apologies for no report last week so what DID happen in the quarter finals? Well Fisher & McFarlane made it to the semis with a 6&5 drubbing of H. Whitelaw & McMurchie. Crichton & Lintermans also made it through by defeating J. Dunn & J. Standaloft by a close 2&1. Holders McDonald & Slaven managed a 1 up win against the so far unbeaten pair of Cassidy & McKirdy. The final semi place went to D. Standaloft & G. Dunn who defeated young guns D. Whitelaw & McCready by the margin of 3&2. Up to date now? OK? Now let us move on to the semi-finals themselves.
McDonald & Slaven made it through to their second final in 2 years by a comfortable 4&3 win over Fisher & McFarlane while the lowest handicap pairing in the competition, D. Standaloft & G. Dunn, found Crichton and Lintermans - somebody needs to see to Lintermans' handicap - too hot to handle and lost out by the margin of 5&4.
At the other end of the league the Wooden Spoon is stiull anybody's. Melville & Ware look to be favourite at this stage but a win in the final game may save them and if the Greers lose then it could be them.
Sunday's results, apart from the semi final games, were:
Cassidy & McKirdy bt H. Whitelaw & McMurchie 2&1: J. Standaloft bt D. Whitelaw & McCready 6&5: Pedder & Black bt Reid & Manvell 3&2: Hassan & Shaw (Jardine) bt G Whitelaw & Chrystie 4&2: Bicker & Marshall bt Jardine & Durrant 1 up: Renfrew & Peacock bt Milliken & preston 3&2: MacKillop & Gabell bt Bodys & Martin 5&4: MacPhail & Barnett bt Muldoon & Officer 5&4: Greer & Greer bt Melville & Ware 5&4

Ceud Mile Failte
A hundred thousand welcomes

Port Bannatyne Golf Club is located on the beautiful and historic Isle of Bute, in Scotland. It is an ancient, distinctive, and hospitable golf club where green fees are affordable and visiting golfers are made most welcome.

Our gaelic greeting ('Ceud Mile Failte') is symbolic of scenery and atmosphere. Although the island lies in the Clyde Estuary in the south west of Scotland—and is therefore easy to reach—the Higland Boundary Fault runs neatly through the middle of Bute just a few miles south of our course. So the vistas and landscapes that surround you while playing are truly Highland in their characteristics. If you only play here once, we promise you will carry the memories of your day on our course in your heart for many, many years.
