RECORD FIELD FOR HANSON TROPHY by Webmaster @ 16:57 GMT

A record field of 84 golfers, 21 teams of 4, contested The George Hanson Builders Ltd 4 Man Team Event over The Port course on Sunday. Generously sponsored by George Hanson Builders Ltd this was the second year of this event and should it continue to gain this popularity then a 7am starting time will be needed next year. As it was teams made their way on the course from 7.45 through to 2.00 pm and while the conditions were very breezy the scoring was impressive and competitive. Winners on the day were the team calling themselves "Forever Young", although their combined ages would certainly have denied this as being truth. Hector Whitelaw, Bobby Pedder, Harry Slaven and Jim Bicker carded a 119 which was always going to be difficult to beat. Two other teams did their best though and with 120, Donald Standaloft, Graham Dunn, Kenny Gillespie and Paul Hughes looked safe in second place until the very last team in. Also carding 120, but with the better inward half, Ian Shaw, David Beattie, Jim O'Donnell and Jim Thompson took second place demoting Donald & Co to third. Fourth place went to the score of 121 of Alex Greer (J), David Greer, Alex Greer (S) and Stevie Officer.
The generous sponsorship however ensured a lenghty prizelist and the prizes were kindly presented by Davina Hanson.
The Club's thanks go to George and Davina for their sponsorship of this event and for their continued support of Port Bannatyne Golf Club.
Prizelist as follows:
1st - 119 - H. Whitelaw, R. Pedder, H. Slaven, J. Bicker: 2nd - 120 (BIH) - I. Shaw, D. Beattie, J. O'Donnell, J. Thompson: 3rd - 120 - D. Standaloft, G. Dunn, K. Gillespie, P. Hughes: 4th -121 - A. Greer (J), D. Greer, A. Greer (S), S. Officer:
Longest Drive at 2/14 - J. McKirdy: Nearest Pin at 4/16 - G. Dunn: Nearest Pin at 10 - P. Manvell: Nearest Pin at 18 - D. Greer.

Summer Cup
With most of the entrants watching Scotland's debacle against Norway only 2 pairings contested last week's Summer Cup. David Reid and Ian Shaw came out on top with 61.5. Only 2 weeks left and it now looks certain to be between D. Standaloft with M. Crichton and I. Shaw with D. Reid. Both couples look to too far in front of everyone else to catch. Entered pairs and club members should note that there will be a Summer Cup presentation evening on Friday 28th August with details to be confirmed.

This Week-End
Friday is the Past Captains' Claret Jug - 12 holes from the medal tees with ballots from 5.30.
The ever popular 2 round of 12 holes Jimmy Whitelaw Cup is on Sunday.
Tee times and pairings are:
9.00 - J. Paterson: D. Driver: J. Marshall: 9.15 - J. Preston: I.L. Macleod: H. Slaven: 9.30 - G. Gabell: P. Barnett: T. Wilkinson: 9.45 - D. Bodys: C. macPhail: A. Greer (S): 10.00 - J. Black: A. Ceud Mile Failte
A hundred thousand welcomes

Port Bannatyne Golf Club is located on the beautiful and historic Isle of Bute, in Scotland. It is an ancient, distinctive, and hospitable golf club where green fees are affordable and visiting golfers are made most welcome.

Our gaelic greeting ('Ceud Mile Failte') is symbolic of scenery and atmosphere. Although the island lies in the Clyde Estuary in the south west of Scotland—and is therefore easy to reach—the Higland Boundary Fault runs neatly through the middle of Bute just a few miles south of our course. So the vistas and landscapes that surround you while playing are truly Highland in their characteristics. If you only play here once, we promise you will carry the memories of your day on our course in your heart for many, many years.
