Jimmy Whitelaw Cup
by Webmaster @ 12:24 GMT
Ian Shaw won this prestigious cup on Sunday with 2 very solid 12 hole rounds of 42 and 40. In second spot at the half way stage Ian stretched ahead of the 40 strong field in the second round with the best round of the day with his PM round of 40. Donald Standaloft was in the lead at the end of the first round with his 40 but a 44 in the afternoon was good enough to give him second place but he elected to take the best scratch prize with a total of 86 for 24 holes which equals 10 under 4's - great shooting from the lowest handicapper in the Club. Second spot then went to Francois Lintermans with his total of net 84 with Andy Williamson taking third place with a net of 87. Once again the prizelist for this 2 x 12 hole competition was extensive thanks to the generous sponsorship of Hector Whitelaw and family and full list was: Winner - Ian Shaw (82): Runner Up - Francois Lintermans (84): Third - Andy Williamson (87): Scratch Prize - Donald Standaloft - (86): nearest pin at the 10th - David Driver: Nearest Pin at 18 - Mark Crichton: Longest Drive at 2 - Donald Standaloft: Best round of the am - Jim Bicker (42): Best Round of the pm - Gordon Whitelaw (41). 56 Wins the Rover!
by Webmaster @ 14:41 GMT
David Driver won the crystal Rover Cup with a staggering score of 56. His gross 71 less 15 is, so far, the best net score of the season and is an indication of just how good the Port course is at the moment. Added testament to that is the runner up score of 61 from Donald Standaloft. Both players had eagles at the 14th and Donald added another 2 at 16 while David, not to be outdone, had another 2 at 18. Mind you they did not have the two's sweep all to themselves as our octagenerian Jimmy Gordon had a 2 at 18. Run in conjunction with the September medal it means that both players add their respective class medal to the collection. Donald winning the scratch with his gross 63 and David winning the second class with his 56. the first class medal was won by Robert Turnbull with a net 64. CSS was 65. Past Captain's Jug Finaly the Past Captain's Jug was competed for and a healthy field was headed by Graham Dunn who took the honours with a net 44. This Week-end Saturday is The Autumn Handicap with the usual ballots The Greenkeeper's Quaich will not be played on Sunday due to Macs Bar Open and a scheduled Firth of Clyde League Match - further details will be posted. News The Fixture List continues to provide the Match Secretary with a headache - on a daily basis! The Jimmy Whitelaw Cup will be played on Sunday the 20th and pairings and tee times will be posted on the competition board. Unknown as yet is the date for the Inter Pub Trophy and the rest of the season's fixtures will be finalised when this date is known. The Rothesay Motor Services Winter League Entry sheet is on the board with a closing date of the end of this month. The Junior Club Presentation evening will be held on Friday 25th september with all members invited. the last Junior Tuesday will be 22nd September. Ceud Mile Failte
A hundred thousand welcomes
Port Bannatyne Golf Club is located on the beautiful and historic Isle of Bute, in Scotland. It is an ancient, distinctive, and hospitable golf club where green fees are affordable and visiting golfers are made most welcome.
Our gaelic greeting ('Ceud Mile Failte') is symbolic of scenery and atmosphere. Although the island lies in the Clyde Estuary in the south west of Scotland—and is therefore easy to reach—the Higland Boundary Fault runs neatly through the middle of Bute just a few miles south of our course. So the vistas and landscapes that surround you while playing are truly Highland in their characteristics. If you only play here once, we promise you will carry the memories of your day on our course in your heart for many, many years.
